Associate Director of Individual Giving

SUMMARY

The Associate Director of Individual Giving is a senior member of the Institutional Advancement team, with oversight of annual donor programs raising $3.2 million per year. Leading a team of three and reporting to the Director of Institutional Advancement, this position also serves as a liaison between annual and campaign fundraising efforts, partnering on strategies to achieve contributed revenue goals and seeking major and principal gifts for both general operating support and restricted funds.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Develop and oversee annual fundraising programs, with a focus on increasing  individual giving across all donor levels from $1,000 - $100,000+
  • Manage a team of three fundraising professionals, providing mentorship and training as appropriate; oversee goal setting and work planning and provide opportunities for professional growth and development
  • Oversee volunteer donor groups that support annual and major gift fundraising; partner with leadership and staff to develop engaged donor committees whose objectives and deliverables align with institutional priorities
  • Participate in campaign strategy meetings and leadership gift proposal development in support of both annual and campaign initiatives; lead the community campaign portion of the capital campaign
  • Maintain a portfolio of leadership gifts prospects; provide personal cultivation and stewardship of individuals with the capacity to give $100,000 and above to annual or campaign support
  • Establish and lead a major gift program within the annual operation and in support of campaign pipeline development; oversee major gift officers
  • Collaborate with Senior Development Services Manager on systems pertaining to annual and major gift operations, including portfolio development, stewardship processes, and revenue tracking and reporting
  • Participate in the creation of fundraising materials and documents in support of campaigns and annual solicitations
  • Liaise with program staff across the museum; partner on content-related strategy as it pertains to fundraising objectives
  • Oversee cultivation event strategy and partner with individual giving staff on the execution of the annual events calendar;  serve as lead staff on high level cultivation events as appropriate

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) and 8-10 years progressive responsibility in a fundraising role; major gifts and annual fund experience required
  • Capital campaign experience
  • Experience  managing staff and overseeing teams and committees
  • Strong background in working with boards, volunteers and donors
  • Exceptional writing and communication skills
  • Ability to work well in a team environment, and to partner effectively with staff members in departments throughout the museum
  • Project management skills
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize, and organize multiple projects
  • Strong computer skills; knowledge of Raiser’s Edge preferred
  • Knowledge of science education preferred, and knowledge of arts and education helpful
