SUMMARY
The Exploratorium seeks a seasoned grants professional, with exceptional leadership, writing and project management skills. The Senior Grants Manager is responsible for four main strands of work: 1) researching, developing, writing, and editing competitive proposals to foundations and government agencies for Exploratorium programs; 2) working with senior program staff to craft new projects, programs and initiatives capable of garnering significant funding, as well as clarifying grant needs and opportunities within the museum; 3) cultivating and stewarding relationships with institutional funders; and 4) leading grant fundraising strategies for individual projects with budgets of $1 million or more. This individual will also be responsible for identifying new funding prospects.
The position requires excellent leadership and writing skills; the ability to represent complex projects in science, art, education, and media to external stakeholders and potential funders; proposal and grant budgeting expertise; the ability to work closely with a wide range of staff, and to work independently. The work is fast paced with frequent deadlines. The Senior Grants Manager will be part of a three-person grants team responsible for enacting a multi-year grants fundraising strategy. This position is expected to manage a grants portfolio of approximately 4 - 5 government prospects and 40 - 60 foundation prospects. This position reports to the Director of Grants.
